Who We Are

Our Mission

The Edmonton Community Legal Centre provides effective advocacy and access to justice in a supportive environment to persons living with a low income.

Our History

The Edmonton Community Legal Centre was originally developed by a group of stakeholders who had a strong commitment to improving access to the legal system for all Edmontonians. As a result, in 1998 the Edmonton Social Planning Council obtained funding to begin the development of the first pro bono legal centre in Edmonton.

In 2002, the Edmonton Social Planning Council launched the Edmonton Centre for Equal Justice. On January 1st, 2005, the Edmonton Centre for Equal Justice became an independent organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. In 2007, the name changed to the Edmonton Community Legal Centre to better reflect the purpose and mission of the organization.
